Christmas Market in Basel

The CHRISTMAS market in Basel is open again. On Barfüsserplatz (-square), Münsterplatz, Claraplatz and in Rheingasse. The Christmas Market in Basel is one of the biggest, oldest and most beautiful in Switzerland. More than 170 stands are offering a variety of 1/2-meter hotdogs, glühwein, raclette cheese, beggeschmutz, chocolate covered fruit, roasted almonds, potato puffers…..and of course a lot of Christmas decorations and candles.
The famous Johann Wanner, has once again decorated the huge Christmas tree on Münsterplatz for all of us to admire. A big surprise, and new on the food list, is a stand selling fondue-dogs, a crunchy fresh bread filled with delicious fondue cheese, perhaps accompanied with a cold pale ale from the Kitchen Brew brewery in Allschwil, cheers! This was also the first Christmas Market for Maggie the dachshund, our new team member on FromTheTopofSwitzerland, she enjoyed it, specially the many culinary offerings
