LIMONE - Chris and Lene on Tour

LIMONE sul Garda, a small town on the shore of Lake Garda, have been one of our favourite places for trips in the autumn for years. We always stay at the cutest little hotel; Monte Baldo, directly in the centre by a small harbour. Most of the rooms have a breath taking view of the lake and most of the town. Visiting in the autumn is very relaxing and not too hot, and yet still warm enough to enjoy an espresso or a nice cold beer at one of the cafés next to Porto Vecchio, the old harbour. There a plenty of restaurants to enjoy, a few special recommendations: Ristorante Gemma, La Cantina del Baffo and actually also the hotel restaurant as well.
Apart from just relaxing, perhaps taking one of the small ferries to Malcesine with flea market and cable car to the mountain area of Monte Baldo, we always fill up stock of olive oil. There is a small olive oil mill in Limone itself where the production can be seen too. But, we just have to admit it, when it comes to olive oil, of the very highest quality; we go to Riva del Garda to visit the cooperative of Cantina Frantoio. Here we get the oil from the most northern production, Linea 46° parallelo – just outstanding in taste!! Try the Linea Uliva as well; you will just love it….really! Apart from that, Frantoio supplies any possible meat, bread, wine, beer, oil etc. from about 300 local producers and farmers. Prepare for spending a fair amount of time here, tasting wine, exploring the shelves and the self-service gas, oh, sorry, wine station 🙂 (see picture). If you already have enough of typical tourist souvenirs, we can recommend visiting the Danish jeweller John Rasmussen on Via Comboni in Limone (no, he is not family 🙂 ).
