ELTZIEGO – Elciego, in the Basque Country in Spain
ELTZIEGO – Elciego, in the Basque Country in Spain, is a nice little picturesque village where we’d decided to stay for the night in the camper. There is a camper place with pitches for 14 campers, and staying was free. Then of course we decided to see the village. There is a beautiful old church, Iglesia de San Andrés, but unfortunately, it was closed during our stay. The famous baker, Panadería Barrihuelo, was also closed, as well as most of the restaurants. Perhaps because there was a big party going on, a local festival with drinks, dance and song, kids as well as adults running around after each other with artificial bulls. However, the village is beautiful and well-maintained. On the outskirts of the village, there is a famous art hotel, Marques de Riscal, designed by Frank Gehry. It’s also a winery with Rioja wines, of course. Eltziego is worth a visit when you come to the region.
