CHEESE FONDUE in an IGLOO
FONDUE IGLOO again. We were lucky to get a table in the cheese fondue igloo at Engstligenalp, not far from Adelboden in Switzerland. It is not always possible, this year there are only around 100 places per seating. It is highly recommended to book in advance. This weekend the weather wasn’t the best, very cloudy and even with a few snow showers. But inside the igloo, everything was good. Every year, each igloo room has its beautiful decoration theme, for example, “Fondue”, “Romance”, “Snowflake” or “Edelweiss”. There are also other ice sculptures and the bar in the foyer is also made from ice. The igloo is built adjacent to the Berghotel Engstligenalp, just 100 meters from the cable car station. The menu card is short, actually just two courses, cheese fondue or a bacon-sausage-cheese plate, one dessert and hot/cold drinks. That’s it. And we didn’t want to have it any different, we ordered the cheese fondue with bread and potatoes. Yes, it is cold in an igloo, but all seats were covered with sheepskins and carpets, and in general, no one takes off their jackets. This weekend, because of the weather conditions, not much happened at the mountain, but normally there are lots of skiing activities, snowshoe hiking and ice climbing. This year the fondue igloo is open until the 18th of April.
