ROTHENBURG o.d. Tauber, medieval German town
ROTHENBURG ob der Tauber is a must-see medieval town if you are visiting Bavaria, Germany. During our motorhome trip in Germany last year, this was a long-planned high light. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is simply one of the most picturesque small towns in Germany, full of half-timbered houses, medieval towers, a town-wall encircling the whole center, a crime museum with nasty equipment showing how people were punished in the “good old days”, beautiful parks and of course multiple squares with lots of opportunities to just sit and relax, enjoying ice cream, a nice cold Bavarian draught beer or one of the local pastries, the Schneeball (snowball) with chocolate, marzipan or whatever your favorite is. The town-wall walk can be started from several stairs or towers and offers a lot of scenic views over the town and to/from the 42!! towers on the almost four kilometers long tour. During our stay, we parked on the motorhome parking spot (Stellplatz) just a 4-minute walk from the town wall – perfect for a few days, and with great options for other hikes or cycling tours. Somehow Rothenburg ob der Tauber and the other German medieval towns found a place in our hearts.
