Hiking and viewpoints in TICINO

ASCONA and LOCARNO in TICINO can be starting points for many excursions and hikes. After parking next to the cable car station Orselina, north of the two cities, the cable car took us to the first stop at Cardada in 5 minutes.

At Cardada, at 1340 meters above sea level there is a viewing platform, stretching out over the treetops, with perfect views over Ascona, Locarno, and of course the beautiful lake, Lago Maggiore. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very clear during our visit, but still ok.

After enjoying the views here, we continued by the chair lifts, where you sit sideways, strange experience, to our target for the day, the round viewing platform with a 360 degrees view at the Cimetta mountain at 1670 meters.

In clear conditions, this is one of the places in Switzerland where it is possible to see the lowest point (Lago Maggiore) and the highest point, the Dufourspitze (Dufour Peak) at 4634 meters in the  Monte Rosa mountain massif. The whole area is full of great hiking options, all with fabulous views. And lots of other activities, mountain biking, paragliding, and playgrounds for children. It was a splendid day with our family visiting from Denmark.
