ELTZIEGO – Elciego, in the Basque Country in Spain
ELTZIEGO – Elciego, in the Basque Country in Spain, is a nice little picturesque village where we’d decided to stay for the night in the camper. There is a camper place with pitches for 14 campers, and staying was free. Then of course we decided to see the village. There is a beautiful old church, Iglesia de San Andrés, but unfortunately, it was closed during…

ROCAMADOUR, France
ROCAMADOUR, in France, is an extraordinary and spectacular town. To some extent, it seems to be hanging on a high cliff, but still possible to walk around in. And the locals even drive through the narrow streets, partly even in trucks (which sometimes causes chaotic scenes, when the drivers are new to these streets. We drove to Rocamadour as part of a longer trip through…

GRUYÈRES – medieval cheese village in Switzerland
The GRUYÈRES medieval village in Switzerland is a beautiful place with a fabulous atmosphere. The name Gruyères is known all over the world as cheese, but is also this village. But of course, you can enjoy cheese in most of the restaurants here, and also buy some cheese to take home. The cheese of course comes from mild to absolutely stinky. Some of the cheeses…

Lauterbrunnen Valley, Switzerland, again
During our last stay in the Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland, we stayed at the little Camping Breithorn camping site. (See also the previous post). From the camping place, we also walked to Lauterbrunnen village, partly along the river Weisse Lütschine. The surrounding views in the valley are absolutely spectacular, so no wonder lots of people use the narrow road for walks in the sun. Along…

James Bond’s Schilthorn in Switzerland
Schilthorn in Switzerland is a 2.970-meter-high mountain. It can be reached by 4 cable car sections from Stechelberg in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. We went there again in late April 2023 to enjoy the brunch in the revolving restaurant at the top. It is highly recommended to book a table in advance. On the way to Shilthorn, we had to change cable cars in Gimmelwald, Mürren…

The Rock restaurant :)
We call it Klipperestauranten, the Cliff Restaurant, but actually, the name is Aescher Gasthaus Am Berg, Aescher Mountain Guesthouse, near Appenzell in Switzerland. We have been visiting Aescher many times. Of course, because of the location and the views, but also to enjoy a meal and a drink. This time we arrived at Wasserauen, from where the cable car runs to Ebenalp, in our camper.…

SWISS MOUNTAIN PASSES, part two
After leaving the little campsite by St. Moritz, we drove in the direction of the Maloja mountain pass. It is just 1.815 meters high but includes around 15 very, very narrow hairpin curves. Just before the descent, there is a parking place with a great view over the valley and the Orlegna dam can be visited after a short hike. The pass road is in…

SWISS MOUNTAIN PASSES, part one
Late June 2021, we were on our first mountain pass tour in our only 3 months old camper. The first day we just drove to Camping Thusis-Viamala – to be ready for the first pass the next morning. The campsite is situated along the Hinterrhein river and is full of pitches with shadows from tall Scots pine trees (Pinus Silvestris, for those with relevant allergies).…

Grimentz – a beautiful old village in Switzerland
We have only been to Grimentz once, but it was definitely not our last visit to this wonderful old village. Grimentz is almost 1000 years old and is situated 1.553 meters above sea level. Only about 400 inhabitants live here but during summer and winter, several hundreds of ski and hiking tourists fill the streets and alleys of the village. More than 200 kilometers of…

A short Christmas trip to Denmark
During the Christmas days, we visited Denmark, where we celebrated a lovely and cozy Christmas together with our family. We stayed in a fantastic rented apartment just outside Varde. It was such a warm and cozy apartment, with a fully equipped kitchen where we also cooked a traditional Christmas dish, relaxed, and enjoyed the view over the snow-covered fields in the days after Christmas eve.…
