Lauterbrunnen Valley, Switzerland, again
During our last stay in the Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland, we stayed at the little Camping Breithorn camping site. (See also the previous post). From the camping place, we also walked to Lauterbrunnen village, partly along the river Weisse LĂŒtschine. The surrounding views in the valley are absolutely spectacular, so no wonder lots of people use the narrow road for walks in the sun. Along…

SWISS MOUNTAIN PASSES, part one
Late June 2021, we were on our first mountain pass tour in our only 3 months old camper. The first day we just drove to Camping Thusis-Viamala â to be ready for the first pass the next morning. The campsite is situated along the Hinterrhein river and is full of pitches with shadows from tall Scots pine trees (Pinus Silvestris, for those with relevant allergies).…

Hiking through the Devil’s Gorge – Teufelsschlucht, in Switzerland
Another short hike, this time through the Teufelschlucht â Gorge of the Devil! If you thought the previous gorge was beautiful, then have a look at this one. We parked in HĂ€gendorf, just 40 minutes from Basel. We can highly recommend starting out early in the morning as we did. During the day, this particular gorge is very popular due to its vicinity to the…

Hiking through Kaltbrunnental, the Cold Well Valley, in Switzerland
A short hike through the Kaltbrunnental â literally the Cold Well Valley, in Switzerland, just 23 kilometers from Basel. It is a very green valley, full of caves and small waterfalls. Many signposts inform about the caves and their types. A cave is not just a cave. The caves can be wet or dusty, so bringing extra clothes might be a good idea. And if,…

More wonderful places in Switzerland
Come along with us on a long weekend trip to Dent de Jaman, Chillon Castle, Pissevache, Montreux Riviera, Vevey, and the vineyards around Yvorne. An interesting list of sights, and we managed to experience it all during just a long weekend due to good planning. An exciting train trip from Montreux brought us to the foot of the mountain Dent de Jaman where the cozy…

Hiking along Klöntalersee – Switzerland
Spring is coming, we are looking forward to getting out and together again, for example for a picnic and barbecue. Here is a great place to start: LAKE KLĂNTAL, Klöntalersee, is a just 5-kilometer long alp lake, almost surrounded by mountains. The area around the lake is well-known among hikers and everyone else who just wants to relax and perhaps enjoy a picnic with a…

Hiking by the Thur Waterfalls in Toggenburg
In May we went for our first hike in the Toggenburg area. Close to the town Unterwasser, we wanted to see the Thur Waterfalls, ThurwasserfĂ€lle. We parked by the Hotel Sternen, but there are also parking spots for Mobilhomes just 100 meters away from the path to the waterfalls. The path follows the river Thur and into the Chamber Gorge (ChĂ€mmerlitobel). Arriving at the waterfalls,…

Vertical cliff hike at Galerie DĂ©fago, Switzerland
After our first interesting short hike along the ViĂšze River, we had also planned another hike in the area, being of a completely different character. The first part of the Galerie was opened in 1864 by the local entrepreneur Emmanuel DĂ©fago, thus the name. The view over the valley, to the ViĂšze River and ChampĂ©ry is fabulous. Most of the trip is secured by a…

Hiking by the ViĂšze River, Switzerland
The VIĂZE River is a just 22 kilometers long tributary of the River RhĂŽne. Despite its size, it was still a devastating river in the 16th-18th century with massive floods around Monthey until it was channeled. From ChampĂ©ry, in the western part of the Canton Wallis, there is a 4 kilometers roundtrip hike of which about half of it is along the ViĂšze River. After…
