BACHARACH, another beautiful German town full of halftimbered houses
BACHARACH in the Rhine Gorge, about 50 kilometres south of Koblenz, is a beautiful 11th-century town situated at the banks of the river Rhine and overlooked by the Stahleck castle. Bacharach is full of beautiful medieval half-timbered houses along the cobblestone streets and partly lined by a town wall with several old towers, some of them with great views over Bacharach, and the river. There is…

Esslingen, a fabulous town with lots of old halftimebered houses
ESSLINGEN am NECKAR, a beautiful German town, full of half-timbered houses. After parking close to the castle, we walked through the park and the 16th-century castle with the Dicke Turm (Fat Tower) which is the landmark of Esslingen. From the castle, there is a steep road directly to the old town part of Esslingen. The road runs through one of the smallest and oldest vineyards…

MANDØ, or Man Island, in Denmark
Mandø, literally translated as Man Island, is a very small ( 7,63 km² ) tide island in the southern Wadden Sea in Denmark, right between two other islands, Fanø and Rømø. The population is around 40 persons. But the real special thing about Mandø is the road to get there. It is regularly flooded by the sea, so it is extremely important to know when…

OCTOBER in DENMARK, 2021
One October we went to Denmark again, in our motorhome. At Børsmose Strand Camping, we met with friends to spend a couple of days by the sea. They also have a small dog, Buller, who immediately became good friends with our Maggie. We all enjoyed the windy atmosphere by the Northsea and the food. One day we had a typical Danish dish, hot dogs, and…

SWISS MOUNTAIN PASSES, part two
After leaving the little campsite by St. Moritz, we drove in the direction of the Maloja mountain pass. It is just 1.815 meters high but includes around 15 very, very narrow hairpin curves. Just before the descent, there is a parking place with a great view over the valley and the Orlegna dam can be visited after a short hike. The pass road is in…

SWISS MOUNTAIN PASSES, part one
Late June 2021, we were on our first mountain pass tour in our only 3 months old camper. The first day we just drove to Camping Thusis-Viamala – to be ready for the first pass the next morning. The campsite is situated along the Hinterrhein river and is full of pitches with shadows from tall Scots pine trees (Pinus Silvestris, for those with relevant allergies).…

Grimentz – a beautiful old village in Switzerland
We have only been to Grimentz once, but it was definitely not our last visit to this wonderful old village. Grimentz is almost 1000 years old and is situated 1.553 meters above sea level. Only about 400 inhabitants live here but during summer and winter, several hundreds of ski and hiking tourists fill the streets and alleys of the village. More than 200 kilometers of…

A short Christmas trip to Denmark
During the Christmas days, we visited Denmark, where we celebrated a lovely and cozy Christmas together with our family. We stayed in a fantastic rented apartment just outside Varde. It was such a warm and cozy apartment, with a fully equipped kitchen where we also cooked a traditional Christmas dish, relaxed, and enjoyed the view over the snow-covered fields in the days after Christmas eve.…

Visiting Rothenburg ob der Tauber, AND Überlingen am Bodensee.
On our way back from a Christmas trip to Denmark, we made some stopovers in Germany, mainly in Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Bavaria and in Überlingen at Lake Constance (Bodensee). It was our second visit to Rothenburg ob der Tauber and probably not our last. The medieval old town is so beautiful, full of narrow alleys, half-timbered houses and surrounded by a town wall…

France, part nine – Eguisheim and some travel facts
After leaving La Moutarderie Fallot, the mustard mill in Beaune, we had a long drive in front of us, to our last destination of this holiday, Eguisheim in Alsace. The tour was not the most interesting part, landscape wise, but we had already been in Eguisheim, many, many, MANY times 🙂 so we were looking forward to visiting this little pearl of Alsace, again. Actually,…
